PHILADELPHIA- Despite an early three goal deficit, the La Salle lacrosse team stormed back to top VCU for the team's first Atlantic 10 victory of the 2017 campaign. Guided by
Toni Massetti, the Explorers stopped the Rams in a 15-11 contest on Friday, April 7 at McCarthy Stadium.
Massetti netted a career high six goals from eight shots to lead La Salle in the dismantling of their A-10 foe.
Rachel Ceplo added a season-high three goals on the day, while
Anna Gordon and
Nicole Black contributed two apiece.
Brittany Edwards and
Abby Squires both tallied goals for La Salle's offensive efforts in the victory.
Gordon,
Courtney Woolford and
Ashley Blanton won three draws each, as the Explorers topped VCU 17-11 in draws overall.
Isabel Caddick led La Salle with four ground balls, while adding two draws and causing two turnovers.
Courtney Shoults also caused two turnovers as La Salle topped VCU defensively with eight total against the Ram's four.
In goal, freshman
Kaitlyn Re recorded six saves in the 33 minutes she spent in the net, while picking up three ground balls. She averaged a .500 save percentage in just her second appearance in goal this season.
The Explorers will continue the four game home stand when the team meets George Washington on Sunday, April 9. Draw is slated for 3:00 PM at McCarthy Stadium.
