PHILADELPHIA- A team effort lifted the La Salle lacrosse team over A-10 rival George Washington on Sunday, April 9 at McCarthy Stadium. Six Explorers scored as the team downed the Colonials in a 13-11 contest.
The Colonials jumped out to an early lead over the Explorers when they netted back-to-back goals within the opening two minutes of play, but La Salle was quick to answer. A goal from
Anna Gordon from
Nicole Black put the Explorers on the board just under three minutes into play.
Allee Ilgenfritz followed up with a second goal just one minute later to get La Salle started on what would be a game of back-and-forth. The Explorers overcame a two goal deficit at halftime to outlast the Colonials in the Sunday afternoon contest.
Ilgenfritz led all scorers with five goals on the day, while
Brittany Edwards,
Toni Massetti and
Courtney Woolford each netted two. Ilgenfritz added a game-high three assists in La Salle's balanced attack.
Anna Gordon and Black also scored as the Colonials fell to give La Salle a 2-0 Atlantic 10 weekend. Gordon and
Kiara Lynch each won three of La Salle's 13 total draws.
Isabel Caddick led La Salle defensively with three caused turnovers, while scooping up a team-high four ground balls on the day. Woolford and goalkeeper
Kaitlyn Re picked up three ground balls for the Explorers.
In goal, Re recorded six saves in the 60 minutes of play.
La Salle will wrap up the four game home stand on Thursday, April 9, when the team clashes with UMass at 3:00 at McCarthy Stadium.
