Seven Explorers Score as La Salle Storms Past Duquesne

PITTSBURGH- A trio of Explorers scored five goals apiece as the hot-shooting La Salle lacrosse team picked up an Atlantic 10 win against Duquesne on Friday, April 21 at Rooney Field.

Rachel Ceplo scored a career-high five goals, while Toni Massetti and Allee Ilgenfritz matched her five goals as the team downed the Dukes 21-11.

With Ceplo, Massetti and Ilgenfritz leading the way, seven total Explorers scored in the lopsided contest. Anna Gordon and Courtney Woolford each netted two against the Dukes, while Nicole Black and Isabel Caddick also scored.

La Salle led at the half by just a three goal margin when the Explorers stormed past the Dukes with a five goal run to open the second half. With the game at 14-7, the Dukes could not recover despite several attempts to fire back. La Salle tallied another four goal run, including a pair from Ceplo to close the second stanza.

Ilgenfritz added two assists in addition to her five goals, while adding one draw. Defenders Courtney Shoults and Kiara Lynch picked up three ground balls apiece as La Salle scooped up 20 total.

A balanced defensive effort played a large role as eight different Explorers forced turnovers to anchor the game. Ceplo, Caddick, Black and Ilgenfritz proved versatile as they caused turnovers in addition to their scoring.

Lynch, Black, Gordon and Woolford also won two draws each as La Salle tallied 14 total won draws on the day.

In goal, Lucy Loughlin recorded 11 saves in 60 minutes to stop the Dukes defensively.

La Salle is now 7-8 on the season and 3-4 in conference play as they face Davidson for a final home contest on Sunday, April 23. The Explorers will draw against the Wildcats at 11:00 AM, after a brief ceremony honoring the 2017 seniors.
