PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle Baseball team split its doubleheader with UMass on Sunday, winning the first game 4-3 and dropping the second 3-0

In game one, the Explorers took an early lead with a run in the first inning when Rafael Amanau scored following an error. After the Minutemen answered with two runs in the next stanza, La Salle countered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the second when Brian Tagoe doubled to right center to score Connor Hinchliffe and then Kevin McGowan hit a sac fly to score Tagoe.

UMass tied the game at three in the third inning but again La Salle had answers. In the bottom half, Tagoe hit his second double of the game again scoring Hinchliffe this time for the decisive run to make it 4-3 where it would remain for the rest of the game.

CJ Pruitt drew the start for La Salle, lasting four innings and striking out three. Jorge Jimenez (2-3) secured the win after three innings of scoreless relief work. Austin Constantini came in for the save (4), throwing two innings and fanning four batters. 

Luke Reilly started game two. The lefty upperclassman struck out 10 batters in seven innings of work, allowing just one run. Matt Holt came in and threw 1.1 scoreless innings, striking out three.

The Explorers will have a solid rest before returning to action next Friday when they host St. Bonaventure beginning on Friday at 3:00 PM.
