OLEAN, N.Y.- The lacrosse team fell in a heartbreaking overtime contest at St. Bonaventure on Friday, April 28 to conclude the regular season. The Bonnies pushed past the Explorers by one goal at Marra Complex to take the victory 15-14.
The Explorers maintained a lead in the second half, until the Bonnies stormed back midway through the second stanza on a four goal run that allowed them to gain control of the game. The Explorers fought back but fell just short in the overtime minutes.
Toni Massetti and
Allee Ilgenfritz combined for nine goals in the contest, while six different Explorers scored overall.
Nicole Black put in a pair of goals and
Renee Olivett earned her first goal of the season, but the Explorers were unable to overcome the Bonnies.
Freshman
Abby Squires and junior
Brittany Edwards also sent a goal each in past Bonnie's goalkeeper Megan Conroy.
The Explorers led the game with 21 caused turnovers against the Bonnie's 15, as
Rachel Ceplo and
Kiara Lynch each forced three on the day.
Anna Gordon,
Hailey Leister and
Isabel Caddick also contributed a pair of caused turnovers to contribute defensively.
Gordon and Edwards both picked up three ground balls, as La Salle scooped 22 total in the loss. In goal,
Lucy Loughlin recorded nine saves in her sixty minutes in the net.
