PHILADELPHIA - The Explorers entered the eighth inning leading 7-6 but were victims of a late surge by St. Bonaventure. La Salle would allow three runs from the Bonnies in the final two innings and fall 9-7 on a nice afternoon at Hank DeVincent Field on Saturday.
La Salle scored early when
Ben Faso's single up the middle allowed
Kevin McGowan to round the bases in the first inning. Faso would finish the day with three hits in four at bats along with three RBI's and a run scored.
After falling in a 5-1 hole, the Explorers quickly bounced back with a three-run fifth inning. In the inning, McGowan and Faso's back-to-back base hits scored three runs and cut the Bonnies' lead to one.
Brian Tagoe and
Chase Arnold's RBI hits in the seventh inning allowed the Explorers to take a late 7-6 lead before St. Bonaventure scored the decisive runs in the top of the ninth.
Arnold and Tagoe each finished with two hits in the game.
La Salle's Nos. 3-6 hitters combined for eight hits in the game.
The Explorers will close out the series with the Bonnies on Sunday at noon.
