PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle University rowing teams will finish out their 2016-17 seasons at the prestigious Dad Vail Regatta on the Schuylkill River, beginning Friday, May 12. The two-day event is the largest collegiate regatta in North America, with over 100 colleges and Universities from the United States and Canada participating.

Led by head coach Tom Madden, the Explorers will have five boats competing, including junior Mike Gormley in the single scull competition. Gormley will be the first to take the water for the Explorers in open trials, which start at 7:30 a.m. The men's novice/freshman four boat, consisting of freshmen Quoc Tran, Andrew Smith, Bassem Omar, Nathan Durso and Kyle Hemphill, will be the next group to row, as they'll begin time trials at 7:50 a.m. 

A women's boat - the varsity four - which features sophomore Christi Gosse, sophomore Danielle Deley, senior Sofia Iaconelli, freshman C.J. Lynch and freshman Monika Halicki will follow the men's novice four with trials, and the varsity eight boats for the men and women will conclude the trials at 9:52 a.m. and 10:10 a.m., respectively.

The men's varsity eight will have the following members: freshman Grant Maddock, sophomore Scott Dunn, junior Kenny Roller, junior Kyle Adams, sophomore Bob Noga, junior Kieran Hughes, junior Waleed Omar, junior Josh Brooks and freshman Jack Mischak. The women's eight will have freshman Rebecca Schafer as coxswain, sophomore stroke Jessica Lindsay, senior Amanda Ryan, freshman Tara Cates, junior Emily Finkbinder, freshman Carly Dowd, senior Erika Gonzalez, freshman Logan Howlett and freshman Samantha Donahue.

In the first three trials, the single scull and the four-plus boats, the top 18 times will advance to the semifinal rounds on Saturday, while the top 12 advance from the men's varsity eight trials and the top 15 move on from the women's. Depending on results, racing could continue for the Explorers in repechage rounds beginning at 3:00 p.m. The schedule is also subject to change due to impending weather on Saturday.
