PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle Baseball team split its doubleheader at St. Joseph's on Saturday. The Explorers rallied to win the first game 5-3 and then were edged 3-2 in the later contest.
In game one, La Salle fell to an early three-run deficit but finished with five unanswered runs to win the game. The Blue and Gold offense burst onto the scene in the fourth inning when
Connor Hinchliffe hit a three-run home run and
Ben Faso hit an RBI double to give the Explorers the sudden advantage.
Austin Constantini's single up the middle to score a run in the seventh added an insurance tally.
Matt Holt started on the mound for the Explorers and lasted 4.2 innings, striking out five.
Jorge Jimenez (3-3) picked up the win after throwing 3.1 innings of scoreless baseball. He struck out five runners in the process. Constantini came in the pick up the save, his fifth of the season.
In game two, it was La Salle's turn to jump out to an early lead.
Brian Tagoe scored an unearned run in the second after advancing across the plate on an error. Two innings later, Faso hit a solo home run to put the Explorers up 2-0.
Blake James started the game for La Salle. He threw five innings and struck out four.
Jackson Ray and
Mike Anthony made appearances in relief.
La Salle will play the rubber match with St. Joseph's on Sunday at noon.
