Calhoun Accepts Position as Head Men's Golf Coach at Penn

Calhoun

Men's Golf | June 26, 2017

PHILADELPHIA - Jason Calhoun, who served as the first head coach in the history of the La Salle University women's golf program, has accepted the position of head men's golf coach at the University of Pennsylvania, it was announced on Monday.

"We are grateful for Jason's conscientious efforts at helping La Salle build our inaugural women's golf program, and wish him well in his new role at Penn," Director of Athletics Bill Bradshaw said.

Calhoun was named the inaugural coach of the women's golf team in January 2016 and saw the Explorers through their first season as a varsity sport in 2016-17.

The youthful team - comprised of five freshmen, a junior transfer and a graduate student - participated in six events, culminating with the program's first ever appearance in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Championships in Orlando, Fla. in April.

Calhoun was responsible for recruiting six student-athletes to the team, including freshman Rebecca Smith. Smith carded the top single-round score of the year, a second-round 76 at MAAC Championships, and posted the team's top scoring average in her first season as an Explorer.

The move to the men's side marks the second time that Calhoun will be charged with overseeing a Division I men's team. He spent four years as head men's golf coach at Dartmouth from 2001-05.

A search for Calhoun's replacement is underway.
