Box Score PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle women's soccer team (2-0-1) cruised to a 3-0 win over Iona (0-3) on Thursday night at McCarthy Stadium.
Maci Bower put La Salle on the board in the closing minutes of the first half, finding the back of the net in the 44
th minute. The junior corralled a deflected ball off an Iona defender and beat the keeper inside the far post for her first goal of the season.
The Explorers carried the momentum into the second half, taking a 2-0 lead in the 53
rd minute on a goal by
Kristin Haugstad.
Katherine Hennessey and
Madison Bower played the ball up to Haugstad, who found the back of the net for the third time this year.
Freshman
Amirah Louketis scored her first career goal to make it a 3-0 lead in the 61
st minute after an assist from Haugstad. La Salle held a 19-9 advantage in shots for the evening, including a 9-2 advantage in shots on goal.
La Salle kept the ball out of their defensive third, limiting the Gaels to just one corner kick en route to a second straight shutout.
Larisa Zambelli played the first 65:30 in the net before
Claudia Jenkins took over and recorded two saves in the final 24:30.
La Salle looks for a third straight win on Sunday evening when they visit the Penn Quakers for a 6 PM kickoff at Rhodes Field.
