Explorers Shutout Saint Peter's, 2-0

PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle men's soccer team scored two goals and blanked Saint Peter's, 2-0, at home on a muggy Wednesday night at McCarthy Stadium.

After a nil-nil first half, Johnny Ciarlante netted his first goal of the season on a header in front of the net. Redshirt senior Matt Robinson had the helper on the play. Robinson now has three assists and seven points on the year.

The Explorers tacked on an insurance goal by freshman Soji Olatoye late in the second half on another header. Olatoye has been an impressive standout as a first year player with now two goals on the year. Senior defender Zach Rutherford had the assist on the play.

In goal, Mark Tobin stole the show with his first career shutout. Tobin, a sophomore, faced 17 shots including seven on goal, and stopped all of them.

La Salle had 15 shots as a team but the big difference was in corners. The Explorers recorded 13 corner kicks while Saint Peter's had just four.

The Explorers will be in action again this Saturday when they face Lafayette at 7:00 PM at McCarthy Stadium.
