PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle men's soccer team won its second straight in a 2-1 victory over Lafayette on Saturday night in rainy conditions at McCarthy Stadium.
Matt Robinson netted his team-leading third goal of the season while
Kenny Lassiter tacked another onto his season total as well.
Goalkeeper
Mark Tobin made his third straight start and recorded his second victory. The sophomore kept the Leopards in check with three saves and allowed just one late goal.
The La Salle offense came out firing, obviously feeding off the momentum of its win over Saint Peter's last Wednesday. The Explorers recorded five of the first six shots of the game and eight total in the first half. They did not seem to be daunted by the heavy downpours that were not in the forecast.
It wasn't until the second half that they beat the Lafayette goalie. Robinson pounded his third goal of the season home after a smooth pass from
Mathias Patino put him in good position in front of the net. The goal came just minutes after the half.
Lassiter's insurance goal came later in the half. Lassiter lit the lamp after a shot through traffic.
Soji Olatoye fed him on the assist.
Head coach
Rob Irvine and his team look to continue their successful 2-0 homestand on Wednesday when they host Penn at 7:00.
