ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The La Salle men's water polo team was downed twice in its season opener at the Navy Open on Saturday. The first game saw the Explorers fall to Fordham, 14-4. In the second game, the Explorers impressively hung with No. 11 Princeton in a 15-8 loss.
In the first contest,
Daniel Domotor scored twice and recorded two assists in his collegiate debut. The freshman from Budapest, Hungary, is one of ten young newcomers to the team this season.
Cole Strohson and
Patrick Dougherty also recorded their first goals. Strohson was also a standout on defense with three blocked shots and four steals. Freshman goalie
Cameron Schiable drew his first career start. In his debut, he made 12 saves and one steal.
In the second contest, La Salle held a 2-1 lead at the 5:13 mark of the first quarter before the Tigers started to heat up offensively. The Explorers also scored the last four goals of the game. Strohson added another two goals to lead the team in scoring along with
Jeff Brady and
Huw Helman.
Trevin Zweifel also found the back of the net. Schiable had nine saves.
Head coach
Paul Macht and his team wrap up the Navy Open on Sunday with games against host Navy at 8:00 AM and Johns Hopkins at 12:30 PM.
