WASHINGTON, Pa. - The men's water polo team enjoyed its most dramatic win of its young history as part of a two-win day and three-win Mid Atlantic Water Polo Conference weekend across the state. The Explorers are now 3-1 in the MAWPC.
La Salle 15, Salem International 14
Explorer goalie
Owain Llewellyn threw a cross-pool buzzer beater to complete a come from behind win as the buzzer sounded. This came just after La Salle tied the game at 14 with 11 seconds remaining in regulation. Freshman
Daniel Domotor led the team in goals with five scores. Classmate
Cole Strohson had three while
Joey DeFusco,
Jeff Brady, and Pat Dougherty each had two. Dougherty also added four kickouts drawn.
Derek DeFusco led the way on defense, shutting down Salem's center.
La Salle 21, Monmouth 16
The Explorers completed their third victory of the weekend by a final score of 21-16 over Monmouth on Sunday afternoon. As Monmouth kept the game tight through the first three quarters of play, Brady took matters into his own hands and scored a school-record nine goals. Brady also added three assists, two ejections drawn, two steals and a blocked shot. Dougherty had another great game, posting up from the 2-meter position in front of the goal and scoring four goals while drawing three ejections and recording two steals.
Derek DeFusco scored three goals, and had four assists two blocks. Domotor scored three of his own with two assists a team-high five steals. Rounding out the scoring were
Cole Strohson and
Trevin Zweifel, who both scored one goal. Llewllyn made nine saves in net while
Cameron Schiable had four.
La Salle will travel to Villanova to play against the Wildcats' club team as well as Greater Philadelphia Water Polo on Thursday at 7:00 PM.
