PHILADELPHIA - The men's soccer team (4-4-1) tied LIU Brooklyn (1-5-2) at McCarthy Stadium on Wednesday night.
Johnny Ciarlante scored a goal with 41 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime. Ciarlante has had a flair for the dramatic as he also scored a game-winner with just over two minutes left in La Salle's previous match on Saturday.
Ciarlante's goal came on the ground, beating the LIU Brooklyn keeper on the inside near the post. He was assisted by
Hayden Criollo.
With the tie, the Explorers have not lost in their last five matches.
The Blackbirds' goal came in the 30th minute. Following the goal, the La Salle defense shut them out for the next 80 minutes.
Ciarlante had team highs in shots (three) and shots on goal (two).
Matt Robinson and
Soji Olatoye each had two shots with one being on net.
Goalkeeper
Mark Tobin made four stops. He has allowed more than one goal just once in six starts this year, accumilating a 4-1-1 record.
The Explorers will now hit the road to begin Atlantic 10 play when they face off with Duquesne on Saturday at 3:00 PM.
