SAINT LOUIS, Mo.- The La Salle volleyball team was overcome by Saint Louis on Friday evening, in a 0-3 final despite impressive efforts from the Explorers. With the loss, La Salle falls to a 9-9 split record on the season.
The Explorers got off to a strong start in set one, jumping out to a 2-1 lead thanks to a pair of kills from
Samantha Graver. The Explorers maintained a lead that stretched to four at 19-14 before Saint Louis was able to crawl back. The two teams battled neck-and-neck for the remainder of the set before the Billikens pushed ahead with two kills to claim the set 23-25.
La Salle and Saint Louis went on another back-and-forth battle for a 21-25 final in set two that gave the Billikens a 2-0 edge. The second set featured five lead changes as the teams went point-for-point until the Billikens broke away on a 4-0 run. The Explorers totaled 12 kills against the Billikens nine, but it was not enough to stop Saint Louis from taking the set.
In the third set, La Salle jumped out to a hot 11-8 start until the Billikens equalized the score on a pair of kills from Camilla Rivas. At 14-14 the Billikens stormed through the rest of the set on a 13-1 run that secured the match in a 15-25 third score.
Graver and
Devin Corah chipped in eight kills apiece in the loss, while
Bryanna Davis added seven. Setters
Kathryn Wood and
Emily McCann contributed 13 assists each of La Salle's 33 total.
Jensen Sharrits, Wood and McCann added five digs each as La Salle posted a combined 22 on the match.
The Explorers will return to the court on Sunday, when the team faces Dayton at 1:00 p.m. in Dayton, Ohio.
