LEWISBURG, Pa. – Three members of the La Salle University men's track and field team claimed individual victories as the Explorers competed at the Gulden Invitational on Saturday. La Salle place third among six teams with 92 points.
Graduate student
Chris Sanders, junior
Nathan Gillis and senior
Nick Smart each came away victorious for the Explorers.
Sanders took home the 800-meter title with a winning time of 1:54.13. Gillis won the 1,000-meter run with a mark of 2:29.83, edging out sophomore
Anthony Hawthorne, who placed second at 2:30.23. Meanwhile, Smart was one of four Explorers to finish in the top six in the 3,000-meter run, posting a personal-best time of 8:38.88 for the win.
Senior
Dylan Titon was just behind Smart in the 3,000 meters, finishing in 8:39.36 for second place, while graduate student
Bradley Heuer was fourth and freshman
Luke Jaciw-Zurawkowsky was sixth.
In the field, junior
Zakiyy Williams registered a mark of 14.00 meters in the triple jump, good for second place. Freshman
Dylan Burnett (8.35) and sophomore
Ache Hall (8.49) finished fifth and sixth in the 60-meter hurdles, respectively.
Senior
Justin Guerre sprinted for second place with a time of 6.97 in the 60-meter dash, and freshman
Najee Smith finished fifth in the event at 7.11. Senior
Michael Hagan posted a time of 1:09.77 to finish third in the 500-meter run. Hagan, junior
Isaiah Akil, sophomore
Jordan Patterson and Burnett teamed up for a third place finish in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:35.18.
Freshman
Chase Campbell placed third in the 400-meter dash with a mark of 50.23, while Akil was fifth with a time of 50.93 in the event. Campbell (6th), freshman
Ethan Cook (7th) and Akil (8th) each finished in the top 10 among 27 finishers in the 200-meter dash.
The Explorers will compete at the Penn State National Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 26-27.
