Men’s Soccer Comes from Behind to Win Overtime Thriller at NJIT, 2-1

TEANECK, N.J. – Sophomore Soji Olatoye scored the game-winning goal in extra time, as the La Salle University men's soccer team picked up a 2-1 comeback win over NJIT in its final road match of the season on Tuesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • NJIT struck first in the ninth minute as Rene White notched his 10th goal of the season for the Highlanders.
  • With the match still 1-0 in favor of the Highlanders after halftime, junior Jesper Lenander tied things up at one all with his second goal of the season.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Brett Werner made all four of his saves in extra time to prevent the Highlanders from taking the match.
  • 5:41 into overtime, graduate student Mike Liska found Olatoye, who placed home his sixth goal of the season to give the Explorers the victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Werner (1-1-1) earned his first collegiate win in net. He's given up just three goals in three games.
  • La Salle overcame a disadvantage in shots, as NJIT held a 12-9 shot advantage and 5-3 shot on goal advantage.
