Box Score PHILADELPHIA -- The La Salle University field hockey team fell to Holy Cross, 5-4, in the Philadelphia Classic hosted at St. Joseph's University on Sunday afternoon. The game saw the Explorers return from a 3-1 deficit in the first half to tie up the game 4-4 at the end of the second, forcing an overtime decision.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Junior Amanda Chapin scored the first goal of the game at the 6:30 mark, giving La Salle to 1-0 advantage over the Crusaders.
- Holy Cross retaliated with three goals in under six minutes to snatch the lead away from the Explorers, ending the half 3-1.
- Chapin returned to the field with another goal at the top of the second, narrowing the score to 3-2.
- Senior Mackenzie Karcher and junior Lauren Lechleitner reinvigorated the game, finding the back of the cage to register two more goals, helping La Salle edge ahead of the Crusaders, 4-3.
- Holy Cross found its way back again with another goal to tie it up 4-4 at 55:46.
- Neither team was able to break the lock by the end of the second half, sending the game into overtime.
- Lechleitner took a shot that went high before Holy Cross senior Emily Loprete found the back of the cage for her second goal of the game to register a win for the Crusaders.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- La Salle outnumbered Holy Cross in assists, 2-0, penalty corners, 8-2, and saves, 7-5.
- Chapin reached a season high in goals and shots on goal, with two each.
- Karcher tallied a season high of five shots and recorded three shots on goal for the second straight game.
- Lechleitner's goal marked the third consecutive game in which she scored.

La Salle will host a couple of Atlantic 10 matches at home next weekend. The Explorers will first challenge Richmond on Friday, Oct. 12 at 3:00 p.m. and will then face off against VCU on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 1:00 p.m.
