NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Head coach Caitlin Schweihofer was named Coach of the Year and junior Kathryn Wood was tabbed Setter of the Year to headline six Atlantic 10 Conference honorees from the La Salle University volleyball team, the league office announced on Thursday.
Wood was also named to the All-Conference First Team along with fellow junior Devin Corah. Senior libero Jensen Sharrits was selected to the All-Conference Second Team, while her and senior Madison Kuch both earned spots on the All-Academic Team. Meanwhile, freshman Elizabeth Osborn landed on the All-Rookie Team.
Schweihofer led the Explorers to their first-ever A-10 tournament appearance this season, with La Salle earning the No. 3 seed. Concluding the regular season at 17-11 overall, it's the most wins for La Salle since the 1998 season. The Explorers went 9-5 in the A-10 and strung together a six-match win streak down the stretch.
Wood leads the A-10 in assists by a sizable margin, averaging 11.04 per set. She went over 3,000 assists for her career on Oct. 19 and has 3,231 over three seasons, sitting just one back of second place on the program's all-time list. Wood, who was named A-10 Player of the Week on Nov. 5, also averages 2.62 digs per set and has 23 blocks and 21 service aces this season.
Corah has consistently been the Explorers' kills leader, entering the weekend third in the conference with 383 kills, which is fourth in single season program history, for an average of 3.87 per set. She reached the 1,000-kill plateau for her career back on Nov. 2 and has 1,017 overall, which ranks seventh in school history. Corah was named A-10 Player of the Week on Oct. 29, and she is sixth in the league with a .294 hitting percentage.
Sharrits recently made history by setting the school record for career digs. She surpassed 2,000 career digs on Nov. 5 and enters the A-10 Championship with 2,101. This year, she leads the A-10 with 537 digs, averaging 5.42 per set, and is second on the team with 112 assists. It's her second consecutive All-Academic honor as well, owning a 3.75Â cumulative GPA as a nursing major.
It's the second consecutive All-Academic honor for Kuch as well, as the Integrated Science, Business and Technology major holds a 3.79 cumulative GPA. Kuch is 11th in the A-10 with 2.70 kills per set and has 219 kills this season.
Osborn has been a key addition in her first season with the Explorers. She ranks 11th in the A-10 in total kills with 239, averaging 2.54 per set. The rookie also posts 2.41 digs per set and has 23 service aces.
The Explorers will make their A-10 Championship debut on Friday when they take on Duquesne in the opening round at 4:30 p.m. in Richmond, Va.
