Season High in Points Not Enough to Lift Women’s Basketball Past Towson

TOWSON, Md. – Three players notched double digit point totals for a team season high in points as the La Salle women's basketball team (0-4) fell at Towson (2-1) Saturday evening, 92-68. Sophomore Deja King paced the Explorers with a career high 15 points.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • In a neck and neck first quarter that saw six different lead changes, the Explorers forced the Tigers into foul trouble early, scoring seven of the team's 14 points from the charity stripe.
  • After Towson started the second quarter on a run, La Salle held the Tigers scoreless over the last 4:22 of the frame and took a 10-1 run over the final 3:24 to cut the deficit to seven.
  • In the third stanza La Salle forced Towson into foul trouble early, scoring 11 of the team's 25 points from the foul line.  The 25 points are the most that the Explorers have scored in a quarter this season.
  • Towson pulled away in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Joining King in double figures were freshman Kayla Spruill and sophomore Michelle Nicholls with 11 points apiece. Both Spruill and Nicholls registered career marks.
  • Collectively, the team shot a season best 31.6% from the floor, making a season mark 18 field goals.
  • As a whole, the Explorers scored 29 points from the free throw line, shooting 69%.
  • King set a career mark in steal with four, en route to a team season high 14 steals.
GAME NOTES:
  • Against Towson, both sophomore Jasmine White and freshman Erin Morgan made their first career starts.
  • Morgan (2) and classmate Janay Sanders (5) scored the first points of their collegiate careers.
UP NEXT:
La Salle finishes its four-game road string and opens Big 5 play with a Tuesday night battle at Villanova. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. from Villanova, Pa.
