PHILADELPHIA – La Salle University head women's lacrosse coach Katie Rhodes Abbott has completed her coaching staff with the hiring of Cat Rainone as assistant coach.
A native of Newtown Square, Pa., Rainone was a four-year member of the Penn State women's lacrosse team and was twice named to the Big Ten's All-Academic squad.
"I am so excited to finalize our staff with the hiring of Cat Rainone," Rhodes Abbott said. "She had a very successful playing career at Penn State and offers a wealth of knowledge on and off the field. Cat will work primarily with our goalies and assist with the defensive unit. I am confident she will help us get to the next level!"
As a senior, Rainone was the primary starter in goal for the Nittany Lions and compiled a 16-4 record as the team advanced all the way to the national semifinal. She was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week after registering a career-high 14 saves in a 12-8 win over No. 15 Virginia, the second time she had earned the award that year.
During her time in Happy Valley, Rainone was a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Board, helping to develop creative fundraising ideas, and was the student athlete ambassador for Penn State's THON, a student-run philanthropy committed to enhancing the lives of children and families impacted by childhood cancer.
Rainone has worked with Ultimate Goal Lacrosse, serving as goalie coach and defensive coordinator since 2014, and also spent time as a strength and conditioning coach during her tenure at Penn State.
Rainone received a Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology with a focus in human movement from Penn State in 2017.
