PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle women's basketball team (3-11, 0-3 Big 5) fell to Temple (4-7, 2-1 Big 5) Sunday afternoon, 75-47. Sophomore
Deja King paced the Explorers with 10 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- La Salle held a slight advantage through the first 6:00 of the game. When the media timeout was called with four minutes left, the Explorers were up 10-9. The teams traded the final four points, scoring two apiece. Junior Shalina Miller registered three blocks in the frame.
- The Owls made the most of the second period, taking a 20-8 spurt over the first 7:21 of play to grow their lead to 31-20. The Explorers responded on an 8-2 run to close the first half. Both King and sophomore Michelle Nicholls dropped a three pointer on the run to cut the deficit to five at the half.
- Temple started to pull away in the third stanza, taking a 20-10 scoring advantage over the first 7:13 of the period. Only one basket was scored the remainder of the way by either team as Temple held a 55-38 lead.
- The final period opened with a 13-5 spurt by the Owls before the media timeout came at 4:45. Temple finished the game on a 7-4 run to claim the victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Nicholls was the next leading scorer with nine points, followed by senior Jeryn Reese with seven.
- Reese added seven boards to pace the team in rebounds.
- Miller finished the game with four blocks, one shy of tying her career mark.
