PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Junior
Nathan Gillis broke his own school record in the 800-meter run on Saturday, as the La Salle University men's track team took part in both the Fastrack National Invite and the Iowa State Classic over the weekend.
Gillis, who is in his first season with the team, previously set the school mark at the Penn State National Invitational just two weeks ago with a time of 1:50.93. On Saturday, Gillis broke that 800-meter mark with a record time of 1:50.65 to place 17th out of 58 finishers.
Sophomore
Anthony Hawthorne and graduate student
Chris Sanders both competed in the 800-meter race at Iowa State as well. Hawthorne wasn't far behind Gillis, finishing in 1:51.62, while Sanders posted a time of 1:53.27.
Meanwhile at the Fastrack National Invitational in Staten Island, N.Y., La Salle posted a pair of top-10 finishes.
Senior
Nick Smart also had a strong finish in the 800-meter run as he placed fourth among 26 finishers with a time of 1:52.43. In the mile, Graduate student
Bradley Heuer finished eighth out of 25 finishers, posting a time of 4:14.68.
Next up for the Explorers will be the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships, which will take place Feb. 17-18 in Kingston, R.I.
