Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Explorers Edged by (RV) Vanderbilt in Overtime

PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle women's lacrosse team (2-3) was defeated by Vanderbilt (5-1) in overtime, 11-10, on a cold Thursday night at McCarthy Stadium.

The game was tight from start to finish with four lead changes, six ties, and neither team leading by more than two. The Explorers faired well against the visiting Commodores who were receiving votes to be ranked nationally entering the contest and also sported the top scoring offense in the nation.

With that considered, goalkeeper Lynne Frankel turned an extremely impressive performance, making double-digit saves for the second consecutive game.

Brittany Edwards, the team's leading scorer entering the game, gave Vandy fits on defense. She scored three goals on seven shots, recorded an assist, and picked up two ground balls. She scored two of La Salle's last three goals, including one that tied the game with 20:52 left in the second half and then another to take the lead with just over 16 minutes remaining. Edwards now has 16 goals this season.

Scoring was otherwise pretty spread out. Annina Iacobucci scored twice, her second straight multi-goal game. Rachel Ceplo, Bridget Ruskey, Emily Johnston, Hannah Wertz, and Brittany Stevens each scored once. Ruskey also had four grounders and six draw controls.

Ashley Blanton caused two turnovers and picked up a team-high six ground balls.

The Explorers will have the weekend to prepare for their upcoming game against Temple on Monday at 3:00 PM.
