PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle University freshman eight boat continued its impressive season, advancing to the final of the Kerr Cup on the Schuylkill River Saturday. The group of the Explorers finished second in its morning heat and closed in fifth place overall to highlight a contingent of three boats competing in the event.

Racing in the first heat, La Salle crossed the finish line in 7:01.11, ahead of third-place Virginia by over 13 seconds. The Explorers finished ahead of teams from Virginia, Army and NYU.

In the final, Temple earned gold by finishing in a time of 6:40.18. La Salle was edged out of fourth place by Bucknell, who finished just over a second in front of the Explorers. 

The other two races featured varsity eight boats from the Explorers. The first varsity eight finished sixth in its heat, crossing in 7:01.53, while the second varsity eight was also sixth in its heat.

La Salle will return to the Schuylkill River on Saturday, April 21 for the Bergen Cup and a dual race with Loyola (Md.). The day will also feature the annual Pig Roast at La Salle Boathouse.
