PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle University men's rowing team defeated Villanova in two separate races, highlighting its participation in the Bergen Cup on Saturday. The Explorers also took on Loyola (Md.) in a dual match later in the afternoon.

In the morning, the varsity eight boat crossed the finish line in its Bergen Cup race in 6:10.2, exactly one second ahead of the Wildcats contingent. In the freshman eight race, the Explorers closed in second place, overwhelming the group from Villanova by over a minute.

In the third and final race of the event, the second varsity eight crossed in 6:42.9 to finish in fifth. Against the Greyhounds, the freshman eight was victorious and the two four-plus boats finished in first and third place.

The men's rowing team will hold its annual End of Year Awards Ceremony on Thursday, May 10, in advance of the prestigious Dad Vail Regatta which will be held on the Schuylkill River beginning May 11.
