PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle University women's soccer team (1-0-0) will play host to UMBC (0-1-0) in its home opener at McCarthy Stadium on Sunday, Aug. 19. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
- Redshirt senior Madison Bower found the back of the net in the sixth minute as La Salle defeated Syracuse, 1-0, in its season opener on Thursday.
- Bower's goal was the 16th of her career, placing her two shy of breaking into the Top 10 in school history.
- Sophomore Claudia Jenkins started in goal for the first time in her La Salle career and made a key penalty-kick save in the second half to help preserve her first career shutout.
- The victory was the first for the Explorers over a team from the Atlantic Coast Conference since 2014, when they defeated Pitt, 1-0, at McCarthy Stadium.
- La Salle won its season opener for the first time since 2013, when the Explorers downed Old Dominion, 1-0.
- The Explorers are 6-2-2 in their last 10 home openers, including a 5-0 victory over UMBC on Aug. 30, 2009.
SCOUTING UMBC
- The Retrievers suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 loss at the hands of Robert Morris on Friday.
- The contest was scoreless into the 90th minute when the Colonials scored with just 24 seconds left.
- UMBC did hold a 12-8 edge in shots on Friday and had five different players record two.
- Leah Roth had three saves and played the full 90 minutes in goal.
- The Retrievers are coming off a 2017 season that saw them go 4-10-3 overall and 2-6 in America East action.
