PHILADELPHIA – La Salle University women's soccer (2-0-0) picked up its second straight victory Sunday afternoon, as the Explorers downed the UMBC Retrievers (0-2-0), 5-0. The Explorers were led by a pair of goals from redshirt-senior
Madison Bower and a shutout from sophomore keeper
Claudia Jenkins.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- La Salle took off on a hot start, scoring four goals in the first half. Bower netted the eventual game winner during the 15thminute on a feed from freshman Camaren Cox. Just seven minutes later, Cox responded with her first collegiate goal on a feed from junior Jess Shanahan, putting La Salle up, 2-0. The momentum continued four minutes later with Bower scoring her second, this time on a dish from senior Chloe Lewis. Rounding out the first half scoring was freshman Alyssa Van Heurck off of a pass from classmate Katie Hoffman. The goal marked the first collegiate points for both Van Heurk and Hoffman.
- In a defensive second half, the Explorers were able to net one final goal as sophomore Amirah Louketis headed the ball to the back of the net on sophomore Jenna Soriano's feed.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- La Salle led in nearly every statistical category, including shots (13-7), saves (4-2), and corner kicks (7-2).
- Jenkins (2-0-0) finished the day with four saves, earning her second straight shutout.
