PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle University women's soccer team (3-1-0) fell to the visiting Drexel Dragons (1-1-2) Monday night, 1-0, in overtime.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The first half was a defensive battle that went back and forth, with neither team establishing much of an offensive push.
- In the second, redshirt-senior Madison Bower had a penalty kick during the 59th minute, however the Dragon keeper made a diving save to her left. Classmate Clarissa Kirsch-Downs had a rebound opportunity off the PK, however the keeper again made a diving save to keep the Explorers off the board.
- In the first overtime period, La Salle had a few opportunities early, applying pressure in the Drexel defensive zone.
- Two minutes and five seconds into the second OT period, Shaelyn McCarty of the Dragons took a shot from the left side of the field that just made its way past the outstretched hands of La Salle sophomore keeper Claudia Jenkins.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- The Explorers finished with 14 shots on the night, compared to Drexel's 13.
- La Salle also had eight corner kicks, opposed to the Dragons' two.
- In net, Jenkins (3-1-0) made four saves, allowing the lone goal.

La Salle heads back on the road for a match on Thursday, August 30 against Colgate. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
