PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle University field hockey team (1-0) opens a Labor Day Weekend series with Central Michigan on Sunday, Sept. 2 at Hank DeVincent Field. The Explorers will play the Chippewas (1-1) on consecutive days over the holiday, with both contests scheduled for 11:00 a.m. starts.
ABOUT THE EXPLORERS
- La Salle began the season with a 2-0 shutout of Ohio on August 24.
- Junior goalkeeper Emma Provost earned Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week honors after registering 15 saves in the shutout victory.
- Sophomores Amber Blackshear and Rialee Allen were the goal scorers for the Explorers, while senior midfield Logan Oh had an assist on the game-winner from Blackshear in the first half.
- Provost had 10 of her saves in the opening period, and made a key stop of a penalty shot in the second stanza.
- The win was head coach Kelly Broadway's first at the helm of the La Salle program, and for her efforts she was named PhilaFH Winning Coach of the Week.
SCOUTING CENTRAL MICHIGAN
- The Chippewas suffered a 1-0 overtime loss in their season opener at Colgate, before bouncing back with a 1-0 win over A-10 school Saint Louis on Aug. 26.
- Leah Umberger has the team's lone goal of the season, which came just before halftime of the game against the Billikens.
- Lily Amadio has played every minute of both matches in goal, tallying 13 saves.
- Catherine Ostoich is in her first season as head coach at CMU after spending a year at Indiana as an assistant. Ostoich was the head coach at Missouri State prior to the program being dropped by the University following the 2016 season.
