Men's Water Polo Hits Road for Challenging Tournament at Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The La Salle University men's water polo team will take part in the challenging Bucknell Invitational in Lewisburg, Pa., on Sept. 15-16. The Explorers (1-7) will battle the host Bison and Navy on the first day of action, before contests against Mercyhurst and Wagner on Sunday.

ABOUT LA SALLE
  • The Explorers picked up their first win of the year last weekend at the Laker Invitational in Erie, Pa., defeating Washington & Jefferson, 14-11.
  • Sophomore Cole Strohson led the charge with five goals and four steals against the Presidents, and currently leads La Salle with 13 goals, 14 steals and 16 ejections drawn on the year.
  • Classmates Daniel Domotor and Ash Lyne are tied for second with 10 goals apiece.
  • La Salle will round out the tournament portion of their schedule at Bucknell, before hosting George Washington and Navy at Kirk Pool on Saturday, Sept. 22. 
SCOUTING #14 BUCKNELL
  • The Bison are currently 4-1 on the season and is ranked 14th in the latest Collegiate Water Polo Association Poll.
  • Bucknell defeated No. 15 Brown and No. 19 St. Francis Brooklyn while falling only to then No. 8 Pepperdine, 12-11, at the Bruno Classic in Providence, R.I., to start the season.
  • The Bison finished 2017 with a 19-12 (10-0 MAWPC-East) record and captured its second-straight MAWPC East Region regular-season title behind its unbeaten mark.
SCOUTING NAVY
  • The Midshipmen are currently 3-3 on the year, and are receiving votes in the latest CWPA Top 20 Poll.
  • Navy defeated Air Force before falling to a pair of Top 10 teams in Harvard and Stanford.
  • Ronan Williams had 11 saves in the victory over Air Force.
SCOUTING MERCYHURST
  • This marks the second consecutive weekend that La Salle and Mercyhurst will square off, with the Lakers taking the first matchup between the two schools, 12-6.
  • Mercyhurst is a perfect 6-0 on the season, including victories over the Explorers, Lindenwood, Cal Tech and Penn State Behrend at home last weekend.
  • The first quarter of the match last weekend with La Salle proved to be the difference, as the Lakers jumped out to a 5-0 lead and never relinquished control.
SCOUTING WAGNER
  • The Seahawks are also receiving votes in the latest CWPA poll and are rated at No. 3 in the Mid-Atlantic region.
  • Wagner is 2-4, with the four losses coming to nationally-ranked foes.
  • Most recently, Wagner earned a win over St. Francis Brooklyn at the Princeton Invitational last weekend.
