Box Score KINGSTON, R.I. – The La Salle University volleyball team (9-7, 2-1 A-10) defeated Atlantic 10 foe Rhode Island (6-8, 0-2 A-10) 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-20) on Friday night. The victory marks the second straight sweep for the Explorers in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- La Salle held a steady lead over the Rams in the first set, clinching the game 25-17 to pull ahead 1-0 in the match.
- Game two posed a greater challenge for the Explorers as Rhode Island attempted to rally. The teams were tied 22-22 before La Salle earned three straight points resulting in a 25-22 victory.
- The Explorers entered the third set with a 2-0 advantage over the Rams and put down the first four kills to edge ahead early.
- Junior Devin Corah had the match-deciding point, helping La Salle defeat Rhode Island 25-20, for its second straight sweep.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- La Salle outnumbered Rhode Island in kills (36-32), assists (35-31), service aces (6-0), digs (37-34), and blocks (11-7).
- Junior Kathryn Wood had 28 assists and remains at the top of the Atlantic 10 conference in digs/set (11.19). Wood also reached a season high in service aces (2).
- Senior Jensen Sharrits registered 13 digs and maintains her first place rank in digs/set (5.65) and digs (322) in the league.
- Junior Catherine Edgington recorded a season high in blocks (8), which also set a new La Salle record for most blocks in a three-set match.
