ERIE, Pa. - The La Salle University men's water polo team will take a trip to the opposite side of the State of Pennsylvania for the Laker Invitational this weekend. The two-day tournament is hosted by Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pa. The Explorers will face Salem, Gannon, Washington & Jefferson and the host Lakers.
ABOUT LA SALLE
- The Explorers opened the season at the ultra competitive Navy Open last weekend, and narrowly lost the opening contest of the event to Lindenwood in overtime, 12-10.
- Sophomore Daniel Domotor scored four times in that contest, with classmate Karl Miller also finding the back of the net twice.
- Freshman Esteban Rodriguez tallied his first career goal in the contest against nationally-ranked George Washington.
- La Salle faced two teams ranked in their respective Top 25 polls last weekend, as the Colonials were slotted No. 18 and Johns Hopkins was ranked No. 2 in the Division III poll.
SCOUTING SALEM (0-4)
- The Tigers also participated in the Navy Open last weekend, dropping all four of their matches.
- Salem suffered losses to Fordham, George Washington and Wagner before dropping a narrow 17-16 match to Lindenwood.
- Michael Rojas and Robert Juhas had three goals apiece in the loss to the Seahawks.
SCOUTING GANNON (2-0)
- The Golden Knights downed Penn State Behrend and Washington & Jefferson last weekend in Pittsburgh.
- Riley Hinkley registered eight goals and a pair of assists in those two contests.
- Gannon went 18-8 last season and a perfect 7-0 in league play, including three victories over the Explorers.
SCOUTING WASHINGTON & JEFFERSON (1-2)
- The Presidents hosted the season-opening W&J Invitational last weekend, going 1-2 over two days.
- The lone win for Washington & Jefferson came against Penn State Behrend.
- Goalkeeper Nick Spehar made 12 stops to pick up the victory.
SCOUTING MERCYHURST (2-0)
- The Lakers went 2-0 last weekend at the W&J Invite, defeating Penn State Behrend and Washington & Jefferson.
- Brennan Russell finished with four goals in the victory over Penn State Behrend, while Connor Schmitz had four in the other win over W&J.
- Mercyhurst went 11-13 overall a season ago, including a 6-1 record in conference.
