PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle women's basketball team (3-17, 0-6 A-10) couldn't stop a fourth quarter Duquesne (11-8, 5-1 A-10) comeback, falling the Atlantic 10 preseason favorite, 66-62. Three different Explorers eclipsed the double-digit plateau in the Wednesday night bout.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- La Salle ran off to a 10-3 spurt over the first 1:49 of the game. The Dukes responded by outscoring the Explorers 12-10 throughout the remainder of the quarter, however La Salle held a 20-15 lead.
- After Duquesne held a slim 12-8 advantage through the first 6:06, La Salle ripped off an 11-5 spurt through the remainder of the half. The run included a 9-0 stretch of three straight long balls. The Explorers held a 39-32 at the half.
- The Dukes began to chip away at the deficit in the third stanza as they outscored La Salle 15-9 in the frame. La Salle held a slim 48-47 lead after three.
- The beginning of the final period was a defensive battle with La Salle outscoring the Dukes 6-5 through the first 4:27. Duquesne sealed the game with a 14-6 advantage through the remainder of the game.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Sophomore Rayshel Brown had a game high 14 points, marking her fourth straight game above 10 points.
- Junior Shalina Miller picked up her second double-double on the season, scoring 13 points and corralling 11 rebounds. The Philadelphia, Pa. native added three blocks to her stat line.
- Sophomore Michelle Nicholls rounded out the trio of double-digit scorers with 10 points.
- Freshman Janay Sanders had an all-around performance, scoring eight points, dishing out seven assists, and corralling five rebounds. The rookie had a 7:1 assist to turnover ratio.
- Junior Jeryn Reese tied a career best with 11 rebounds.
- La Salle finished with a +3 turnover margin after forcing 17 Duquesne give ups.
