STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - In his very first meet as an Explorer, junior
Darian Alston set a school record during his triple jump victory, as the La Salle University men's track and field team competed at the Penn State National Open over the weekend.
WHERE THEY FINISHED
- Alston, who is in his first season with La Salle after transferring from Penn State, returned to his former school and beat out 17 competitors for the triple jump crown. He took the win with a leap of 15.02 meters, breaking a school record that was set back in 1998 by Edward Morris.
- Sophomore Luke Jaciw-Zurakowsky was also victorious for the Explorers. He captured the 3,000-meter title with a time of 8:29.78, defeating 16 runners in the event.
- Freshman Chris Lewis placed fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 21.95 seconds and also ran the 60-meter dash in 6.99 seconds.
- Junior Anthony Hawthorne finished seventh out of 18 entrants in the 800 meters with a mark of 1:52.43 and was followed by senior Nathan Gillis in eighth at 1:52.84.
- Sophomore Dennis Manyeah turned in a fourth place showing in the high jump, posting a leap of 2.01 meters. Alston also competed in the long jump, posting a mark of 6.52 meters.
- Sophomore Ryan James clocked in at 15:02.22 over the 5,000 meters for ninth place, while classmate Dylan Burnett posted a time of 8.31 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles.
- La Salle's distance medley relay team of Nick Smart, Ache Hall, Brycen Pitre and Matthew Bridger finished third with a time of 10:25.55.
- The Explorers were also represented at the Moravian College Indoor Invitational on Saturday. Senior Isaiah Akil led the way with a fifth place finish in the 400 meters, running in 51.85.
UP NEXT
- La Salle will head to Staten Island, N.Y., next Saturday for the Villanova Invitational.
