Turnovers Hurt Women’s Basketball in Loss to VCU

RICHMOND, Va. – The La Salle women's basketball team (3-13, 0-2 A-10) couldn't overcome a season high 34 turnovers in a loss Tuesday night at VCU (10-5, 2-0 A-10), 68-38. Senior Jeryn Reese led the Explorers in points, setting a career high with 13.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • La Salle held a 10-6 edge 3:15 into the game. VCU battled back to end the period tied at 13.
  • VCU started the second frame on a 7-2 run before the media timeout at 4:33. The Rams ended the quarter with a 14-2 advantage to take a 34-20 lead in the half.
  • In the third frame, La Salle held VCU without a field goal for a 3:29 span heading into the timeout at 4:57. Despite holding the Rams without a field goal, the Explorers were over the foul limit, allowing VCU to hit five free throws to hold an 11-7 advantage in the stanza.
  • After VCU started the quarter on an 8-0 run, the Explorers responded with a 7-0 run of their own. The Rams ultimately ended the period with an advantage to take the victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Joining Reese in double figures was freshman Janay Sanders with 10 points. The Charlotte, N.C. native added a career best five steals to her stat line.
  • On the glass, junior Shalina Miller led all players with nine rebounds, adding three blocks.
UP NEXT:
La Salle returns to Philadelphia, where it will play its next six game. Next on the docket is UMass on Sunday. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. from Tom Gola Arena.
