CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Explorers again faced quality opponents on Sunday, suffering defeats to #17 Pomona-Pitzer and #9 Harvard. With not many goals to come by, three Explorers paced the team with two goals each: senior
Luke Waechter, junior
Cole Strohson and sophomore
Tyler Williams.
Pomona-Pitzer 10, La Salle 4
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Sagehens opened the scoring before Waechter leveled the score. Pomona-Pitzer would score three more in response to lead 4-1 after the first.
- La Salle couldn't get the offense going in quarters two and three as the Sagehns outscored them 4-0.
- Heading into the final frame down 8-1, Williams scored to get a goal back. Pomona-Pitzer answered back, freshman Callin Chimilar found the back of the net, and the Sagehens scored again. The Blue & Gold were down by seven at that point as freshman Isaiah Klein-Cloud scored one more for La Salle,
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- There wasn't an Explorer with a multi-goal game, but senior Joey DeFusco was the top provider with two assists.
- Chimilar led all Explorer with two exclusions earned, while junior Ash Lyne was the high man in steals with a pair.
- In net, junior Cameron Schiable recorded six saves on nine shots.
- Klein-Cloud's goal was his second as a collegiate player, with his first coming against Washington & Jefferson on September 21st.
Harvard 18, La Salle 4
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The home side recorded the opening two goals, which Waechter responded to with a score. The Crimson scored the next three to go up 5-1 after the first.
- Another goal for Harvard opened the second. The Explorers got their second through Strohson, but the Crimson answered with four of their own.
- Down 10-2 at the half, La Salle couldn't find an answer against Harvard's offense. The hosts scored twice out of the break before Williams struck back, only for the Crimson to score twice more after that.
- It would've been a comeback of epic proportions to erase a 14-3 deficit in the final quarter, and Harvard made sure that wouldn't happen. Although Strohson again got on the board to bring the lead to 10, four unanswered for the Crimson sealed it.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Strohson was the sole Explorer with multiple goals in this game, recording a brace.
- La Salle's number four also had the team lead in exclusions earned (three) and steals (two).
- In goal, freshman Adriano Zunino tallied four saves on eight shots.
UP NEXT
- The Explorers will take a break before they return home to host Wagner on November 1st. After which, they'll travel to Bucknell that Saturday.
