PHILADELPHIA – Twin sisters
Amy Jacobs and
Claire Jacobs combined for 32 points as the La Salle women's basketball team (2-1) defeated Harvard (3-1), 75-69, on Friday night inside Tom Gola Arena. The Explorers overcame a 16-point deficit to claim the victory. The win avenges a 45-point loss to Harvard last season in Cambridge, Mass.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After Harvard scored the first nine points of the game, La Salle rallied to pull within five at the media timeout, 13-8. The Crimson held a slight advantage the rest of the frame as they outscored the Blue & Gold, 13-10.
- The Crimson outscored the Explorers 10-8 in the second before the media stoppage at 4:17. Harvard concluded the half with an 8-2 margin, including 6-0 over the final 3:34.
- La Salle started the third stanza on a 7-0 run, which forced Harvard to take a timeout at 7:41. The Explorers continued the scoring out of the timeout with another five straight points before Harvard found the scoreboard for the first time in the second half. Harvard held a 13-12 advantage through the rest of the frame, with La Salle finishing on a 6-1 spurt.
- La Salle started the final period with a 12-5 run to the media timeout at 4:51. The Blue & Gold concluded the game, outscoring the Crimson, 12-9. Seven of the final 12 points came from junior Deja King.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- A. Jacobs finished as the team's leading scorer with 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including 4-of-6 from long range.
- C. Jacobs added 15 off the bench.
- King rounded out the double-digit point scorers with 11, including 9-of-10 from the free throw line.
- Senior Shalina Miller led the blocking efforts with a team-high three deflections.
- Collectively, the team shot 38.1% (24-of-63) and 84.2% (16-of-19).
- Ten of 12 players registered a point for La Salle, with 49 points off the bench.
- The Blue & Gold won the turnover margin 10 to 24.
GAME NOTES:
- Freshman Christina Kline made her first career start.
- A. Jacobs' scoring was a career high.
