PHILADELPHIA — The Explorers are set to conclude their regular season on Saturday with an away match against Duquesne. For La Salle, a win could be the difference between seeds four and five, although it would require a lot of help: George Washington must lose both its games Friday and Sunday in addition to a La Salle win. The Explorers are guaranteed the five seed even if they lose because they own the tiebreaker over Davidson.
ABOUT THE EXPLORERS
- Winning ways: the Blue & Gold is 5-2 in its last seven games. A win over Duquesne would continue that rich vein of form heading into the postseason.
- La Salle as a team leads the conference in kills per set (13.48), assists per set (12.69) and attacks per set (38.10). It is second in digs per set (16.65).
- Senior Kathryn Wood remains first in assists per set (10.49) and total assists (997) in the A-10. In all likelihood she will become the conference's leading assist provider for the third straight season.
- Last time out, La Salle's number three broke the program's all-time assists record. She currently sits at 4,331 for her career.
- Additionally, freshman Rachel Hess ranks third in the conference in digs per set (4.45) and junior Samantha Graver is fourth in kills per set (3.59) and points per set (3.95).
SCOUTING THE DUKES
- Duquesne is 10-16 on the season and 4-9 in conference play. It has fallen out of postseason contention after dropping six of its last seven conference matchups, including a crucial defeat to Davidson that gave the Wildcats the tiebreaker and, eventually, the sixth seed.
- The Dukes aren't particularly high in conference stats. They rank fourth in digs per set (16.09) and fifth in hitting percentage (.184).
- Senior Liz Wayne is a player to watch for the Dukes. She ranks fifth in the conference in hitting percentage (.327) and was effective last time out against La Salle, hitting .500 with 12 kills.
- In Duquesne's October 11th win over the Explorers, freshman Morgan Kelly led the Dukes with 19 kills.
- Game time: Saturday, 4:00 p.m.
