NORFOLK, Va. – Freshman Jordon Lewis and senior Shalina Miller had career games Friday night as the La Salle women's basketball team (4-1) slipped past Norfolk State (2-3), 55-52. The Explorers are off to their best start since 2006-07 when the team went 5-0.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

• La Salle held a slight advantage in the first frame with a 14-13 lead.
• Norfolk State answered in the second period as it outscored the Explorers 14-10 to take a 27-24 lead into the break.
• La Salle opened the third stanza on an 11-2 run over the first 4:33 to force a Spartans' timeout. The home squad outscored the Blue & Gold 9-4 to finish the frame.
• Down in the fourth period, the Explorers capitalized on a 13-3 spurt over the final 5:16 to seal the victory. Norfolk State was scoreless over the last 4:35.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

• Lewis registered 18 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the floor, including 2-of-3 from long range. She also was a perfect 8-of-8 at the charity stripe.
• Miller corralled 16 rebounds and deflected two shots.
• Sophomore Kayla Spruill was the next leading scorer with 10 points. She also swiped five steals and snagged seven rebounds.
• Nine different Explorers recorded a point.

GAME NOTES:

• Lewis' points, Miller's rebounds, and Spruill's steal were career bests.
• La Salle extends its win streak to three games, a feat that hasn't happened since the beginning of the 2017-18 season.
• This is the Explorers' third comeback by at least eight points this season.
