PHILADELPHIA – With a season high 12 players who tallied a point, the La Salle women's basketball team (5-1) moved its win streak to four games with a convincing win over Coppin State (0-6), 79-46, on Tuesday night. The Explorers' 79 points for and 46 against are both season bests.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- La Salle jumped out to a 7-0 lead before the Eagles found the scoreboard. At the media timeout with 4:40 left, the Explorers held an 11-4 lead with five different players registering a point. The Blue & Gold closed the period with an 18-8 run to hold a 29-16 lead.
- In a defensive second quarter, La Salle outscored Coppin 10-6 for a 39-22 lead.
- La Salle won the third stanza with an 18-10 point advantage with the final six points coming from rookie Kayla Braxton-Young.
- The offensive output picked up from both teams in the final period as the Blue & Gold pushed its lead with a 22-14 margin.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- La Salle's 39 first half points are the most in a first half this season, while Coppin's 22 are a season best defensively for the Explorers in any half.
- A total of 12 players registered a point in the victory.
- The Explorers outshot Coppin 41.4% (29-of-70) to 30.9% (17-of-55).
- Collectively, the Blue & Gold handed out a season high 16 assists.
- La Salle deflected nine shots as a team.
- The Explorers notched 26 fast break points and 25 off of turnovers.
- Freshman Claire Jacobs led the way with 12 points.
- The trio of freshman Jordon Lewis, graduate student Carley Lytton, and Braxton-Young scored nine apiece. Lewis and Lytton each added four boards.
- Senior Shalina Miller led the squad with 10 rebounds and a season best four blocks.
- Junior Kate Hill tallied a career high seven assists and added six points.
- Junior Haleigh Hill dropped five points and corralled five boards – both career highs.
GAME NOTES:
- Freshman Amy Jacobs made her first career start.
- Sophomore Erin Morgan made her first appearance of the season.
- H. Hill scored her first career points after two seasons at junior colleges.
- Lytton's nine points are a season best.
- La Salle's last four-game win streak was during the 204-15 season.
