LEWISBURG, Pa. – After falling behind early, #8 La Salle conceded a 15-13 result to #5 Wagner despite a late comeback attempt. Junior
Cole Strohson did his part with four goals, while senior
Luke Waechter chipped in with a hat trick.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Seahawks controlled the first quarter, netting the opening five goals of the game. The Explorers got on the board courtesy of a strike from sophomore Tyler Williams, but Wagner found the final goal of the frame to go up 6-1.
- The opposition began the scoring in the second, to which La Salle answered through a brace from Strohson. The Blue & Gold couldn't continue that run, however, and Wagner ended the half on a 3-1 run.
- Down 10-4 after two quarters, La Salle would have to mount a strong comeback bid and that's exactly what it did. After trading goals early in the third, the Explorers scored five of the next six goals to close within two.
- A strike from Waechter less than a minute into the fourth made it a 12-11 game with momentum to La Salle. Against the grain, the Seahawks found a score and then added two more. The Explorers mounted a very late rally with a pair of goals under the minute mark but couldn't find another two to tie it.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Blue & Gold received over half of its scoring production from Strohson and Waechter. Junior Daniel Domotor scored twice, while Williams, seniors Jeff Brady and Joey DeFusco, plus freshman Callin Chimilar all found the back of the net.
- Third quarter turn: The Explorers made up most of the ground that they lost in the first and second by outscoring Wagner 6-2 out of the halftime break.
- In net, freshman Adriano Zunino yet again performed well with 11 saves on 24 shots.
UP NEXT
- La Salle will now conclude its season on Sunday with a game against Gannon at 9 a.m.
