Total Team Effort in Women’s Basketball Win Over Howard; Claire Jacobs Leads with 20 Points

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rookie Claire Jacobs scored 20 points in her first collegiate game to lead the La Salle women's basketball team (1-0) over Howard (0-1), 78-62, on Tuesday night. All 10 Explorers who played in the game registered a point.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Howard held the advantage after the first frame, 17-14.
  • La Salle jumped out to an 8-0 run to begin the frame through the first 2:02. The Explorers finished the half outscoring Howard, 16-13, for a 38-30 lead at the break.
  • Howard held the edge at the first media timeout in the third, 11-9, with 4:41 remaining. La Salle adjusted and outscored the Bison 11-9 over the remainder of the period.
  • La Salle opened the final stanza and outscored Howard 10-7 before the media break at 4:58. The Explorers closed the game with a 10-6 margin with six points from Jacobs and four from sophomore Kayla Spruill.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Junior Deja King and sophomore Kayla Spruill each dropped 12 points, with King adding six assists and Spruill eight rebounds.
  • Senior Shalina Miller neared a double-double with nine points and 11 boards.
  • Freshman Amy Jacobs rounded out the top five scorers with eight points in her first career game.
  • The Explorers shot 45.6% (26-of-57) from the floor.
  • La Salle outrebounded Howard, 52-40.
