ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The La Salle women's basketball team (6-2) snapped its five-game winning streak on Sunday in the championship game of the Navy Classic, falling to Navy (5-3), 61-46. Sophomore
Kayla Spruill and freshman
Christina Kline led the charge for the Explorers, scoring 25 points between the two.
Spruill was named to the All-Tournament team for her performances against UMBC and Navy.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After Navy opened the game with the first seven points, the Explorers regrouped and outscored the hosts, 9-4.
- The Midshipmen held the upper hand in the second stanza as they paced the game, 21-15, including a 13-3 spurt over the final 4:28.
- Navy pushed its lead in the third quarter as it out shot the Explorers, 15-12.
- The home team scored the first eight points of the final period before the Blue & Gold found the scoreboard. La Salle answered with an 8-0 run of its own to pull within 11. The Explorers held Navy without a field goal over the final 6:20 of the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Spruill registered a team-high 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting, including 4-of-5 from deep.
- Kline dropped a career high 11 points. She was a perfect 4-of-4 from the floor, with three long balls.
- Senior Shalina Miller deflected three shots.
