PHILADELPHIA – Four scored in double figures for La Salle women's basketball (6-7, 0-3 Big 5) on Monday night as the Explorers fell in a nail-biter to Temple (7-6, 2-1 Big 5), 72-69.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After a quiet first few minutes of the game, La Salle exploded on a 10-0 run over a 3:08 span into the media break at 4:56. The Blue & Gold kept the advantage through the remainder of the period, 15-11. Collectively, the team shot 64.3% from the field and a perfect 5-of-5 from long range for a 25-13 lead.
- Temple opened the second quarter outscoring the Explorers 12-3 before a stoppage. The Owls kept up the pressure to regain the lead at 38-35 into the half.
- The Cherry & White kept its lead halfway through the third with a 13-9 margin over the home team. La Salle held the Owls scoreless over the last 4:34 and cut the deficit to two point as Temple led, 51-49.
- The final frame was back-and-forth with six lead changes. La Salle pulled ahead by as many as one, however Temple sealed the victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- La Salle outshot the Owls from the floor (44.6%) and three-point range (39.3%).
- Freshman Claire Jacobs led the scoring brigade with 19 points, followed by her twin, Amy Jacobs, with 15 points.
- Sophomore Kayla Spruill dropped 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting.
- Senior Shalina Miller rounded out the quartet with 10 points, 10 rebounds, and five blocks.
- Rookie Kayla Braxton-Young registered a career high seven assists as part of the team's season high 20 helpers.
GAME NOTES:
- La Salle's 20 assists is the most in a game since the squad dished out 22 against Rhode Island on Jan. 9, 2017.
- Miller is now one block shy of tying Linda French '87 for second all-time with 147 deflections.
