Women's Lacrosse Drops First Away Game of the Season Against Mount St. Mary's

EMMITSBURG, Md. – Women's lacrosse dropped their third game in a row Friday night against Mount St. Mary's. The Explorers struck first but the Mount consistently went on runs to keep the game out of the visitor's reach. La Salle now has a 1-1 program record against Mount St. Mary's.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Sophomore Hope Smith gave La Salle an early 1-0 lead with two minutes gone in the first half, but Mount St. Mary's netted five straight.
  • Sophomore Emily Johnston closed the gap to 5-2 with 18 minutes remaining before the home team again extended their lead to 7-2 to close the first half.
  • Mount St. Mary's started where they left off with a goal from sophomore Jordan Butler; the Bel Air, Md. native had already scored twice in the first half. Junior Gabby Burton brought one back for the Explorers before Butler scored three of the four for the Mount to stretch the score to 12-3.
  • In the remaining 20 minutes, Johnston tallied her second and third of the game, but it wasn't La Salle's night as Mount St. Mary's ran away 16-5.
 INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • La Salle in the penalty: the Explorers received two yellow cards on Friday. This marks eight consecutive yellow cards for the Explorers without their opposition being booked.
  • Statistically the teams were even in all but two categories. La Salle dominated in ground balls winning 15-8, while Mount St. Mary's were tenacious off the draw control, claiming 17-5.
  • Johnston's night: the sophomore recorded team-highs in goals (three), shots (eight) and draw controls (two) to cap a well-rounded game. She scored twice on three free position attempts.
  • Junior Emily Talluto and sophomore Priya Kavuru were tied for the team lead in caused turnovers with two each.
