La Salle Cannot Halt Losing Skid as Temple Narrowly Triumphs at McCarthy Stadium

PHILADELPHIA – La Salle conceded a close game to city rivals Temple on Tuesday afternoon. The 13-10 defeat marks the third result in the last four games where the Explorers fell by five goals or less. Over their current four-game losing streak, La Salle has been outscored by 49-27, with the outlier being the 16-5 loss vs Mount St. Mary's on March 1st.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The game began as a back-and-forth affair. Sophomores Emily Johnston and Allison Hunter answered Temple scores with their own, levelling the game at 2-2.
  • The Owls then took flight with three-straight goals before a pair of Explorers tallied in response. Sophomore Annina Iacobucci halted the run before Temple extended the lead back to three. Sophomore Maddie Dachowski responded with a shorthanded strike, but Temple netted late in the first half (with three seconds on the clock) to cement their advantage at 7-4.
  • The second frame began identically to the first. The Owls and Explorers stood at a stalemate with Temple scoring first, followed by a goal from sophomore Bridget Ruskey. When the away team tallied again, Iacobucci was there again to keep the score at 9-6.
  • With 10 minutes gone in the half, Temple went on a 4-1 that proved just enough to keep La Salle at bay. The Explorers, down 13-7, finished with an impressive three goal burst—however, time ran out on their comeback bid.
 INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • La Salle finished in double-digit scoring for the second time this season. The first instance came back on February 16, an opening-day win against LIU – Brooklyn.
  • Dating back to last season, the Explorers are 4-2 over their last six games where they finished with at least 10 goals.
  • Leading La Salle's offensive attack was Iacobucci with three goals. It's the second straight game where an Explorer has gotten off the mark in 2019 by recording a hattrick.
  • Johnston and Ruskey followed their fellow sophomore with two goals each. Ruskey and Iacobucci also tallied one assist each.
 UP NEXT
  • La Salle ends the week with a trip to Marist on Saturday. They'll seek their first road win under head coach Katie Rhodes Abbott and their second victory of 2019. First draw is at 1 p.m.
