Faso Helps Baseball Fend off Delaware State, 7-4

DOVER, Del. - Senior Ben Faso hit two doubles and drove in three runs to help the La Salle University baseball team fend off Delaware State on Wednesday, 7-4. La Salle (9-6) posted double-digit hits for the seventh time this season and second day in a row for its fourth road win of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Redshirt senior Greg Paprocki kept the Hornets scoreless through the first four innings, only allowing a leadoff single in the fourth.
  • The game was scoreless until the third inning when Faso drove a two-run double to center to bring home freshman Quentin Brown and sophomore Tommy Toal. Faso later scored to make it 3-0, with freshman Nick O'Day getting the RBI single.
  • La Salle made it 4-0 in the fourth as Brown scored on interference behind an RBI single by senior Peyton Sorrels.
  • The Explorers added to their lead in the fifth, ignited by an RBI single by Tatem Levins to score junior Ryan Guckin. Brown later worked a bases-loaded walk, plating McGowan for a 6-0 cushion.
  • Delaware State scored all four of its runs in the bottom of the fifth, taking advantage of two La Salle errors to come within two.
  • Faso provided some breathing room in the eighth, delivering an RBI double to right to bring home Toal and give the Explorers a 7-4 lead.
  • The Explorer bullpen held its own as freshman Chuck Kelley struck out the final three batters in the seventh and sophomore Colin Scanlon rung up the final batter of the eighth swinging. Senior Connor Hinchliffe closed it out 1-2-3 in the ninth for his sixth save of the year.
