PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle University men's and women's track and field teams will begin their outdoor seasons on Saturday when they compete at the Penn Challenge.

TRANSITIONING FROM INDOOR TO OUTDOOR

• The Explorers had a strong indoor season and aim to build off that during outdoor competition.
• The men's team placed fourth at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships, winning five titles along the way.
• Junior Darian Alston was one of those champions, breaking the school record in the triple jump. Meanwhile, sophomore Dennis Manyeah also won the high jump crown at the A-10 Championships.
• Junior Anthony Hawthorne, who won the 800-meter title at both the A-10 and IC4A indoor championships, had an exceptional 2018 outdoor season in which he reached the national semifinals int he 800 meters.
• The women's team had a number of standout performers during the indoor season as well.
• Senior Ariel Mitchell was the A-10 runner up in the 60-meter dash and shattered the school record in the event on numerous occasions. At the IC4A Indoor Championships, junior Jessica Bryant set a new school record in the long jump.
• Junior Grace Mancini has been getting stronger and stronger over the last year, qualifying for nationals in cross country before taking gold in the 3,000 meters at the A-10 Indoor Championships. Mancini had an impressive 2018 outdoor season, when she reached the NCAA regional championships in the 3,000 meter steeplechase.
